This visa allows the partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. You must be in a genuine relationship with your spouse or de facto partner.

There are many pathways available for a parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen move to Australia. Similarly, a dependent child of a parent who is an Australian citizen, eligible New Zealand citizen or holder of an Australian permanent visa can move to Australia to live with their parents.

This permanent visa lets you move to Australia to care for someone with a long-term medical condition. They must have no reasonable access to care options in Australia. You can either be offshore or onshore when you apply, with a visa subclass available for each situation.

This permanent visa lets people move to or stay in Australia to be with their only close family members. You could also be a single older person who relies for financial support on or a child of deceased parents whose relative is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.

Partner Visa

Subclass 309 (provisional) (offshore) leading to subclass 100 (permanent)

The subclass 309 visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia temporarily. Getting this visa is the first step towards a permanent Partner visa (subclass 100).

You stay is temporary until your permanent Partner visa (subclass 100) application is finalised or you withdraw your application.

Subclass 820 (provisional) (onshore) leading to subclass 801 (permanent)

The subclass 820 visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia temporarily. Getting this visa is the first step towards a permanent Partner visa (subclass 801).

Your stay is temporary until your permanent Partner visa (subclass 801) application is finalised or you withdraw your application.

Subclass 116 : offshore

This permanent visa lets you move to Australia to care for someone with a long-term medical condition. They must have no reasonable access to care options in Australia. You must be outside of Australia when you apply and until the outcome of your application is decided.

With this visa, you can:
  • stay in Australia indefinitely
  • work and study in Australia
  • enroll in Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare
  • sponsor your relatives to come to Australia
  • travel to and from Australia for 5 years
  • apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible

Subclass 836 : onshore

This permanent visa lets you stay in Australia to provide care to someone with a long-term medical condition who does not have reasonable access to care options in Australia. The person you care for must be your Australian relative who needs care, or your relative’s family member who lives with them and needs care. You must be inside Australia when you apply and until the outcome of your application is decided.

With this visa, you can:
  • stay in Australia indefinitely
  • work and study in Australia
  • enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare
  • sponsor your relatives to come to Australia
  • travel to and from Australia for 5 years
  • apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible

Relative Visa

This permanent visa lets people move to or stay in Australia to be with their only close family members.
